iTárók ("we", "us", "our") is a language learning application dedicated to preserving and teaching the Tarok language (iTárók / Yergam), spoken by approximately 520,000 people in Plateau State, Nigeria.

We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about how we use it.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

  • Account information: your name, email address, and hashed password when you register.
  • Learning progress: lesson completion, quiz scores, and streak data — stored to personalise your experience.
  • Cookie preferences: your cookie consent choice and date.
  • Usage data (if you consent): anonymous, aggregated analytics such as which lessons are most popular.

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

Your data is used only for:

  • Creating and managing your account.
  • Saving and displaying your learning progress.
  • Sending important service emails (e.g. password reset) — no marketing without consent.
  • Improving the app through anonymous analytics (only if you opted in to all cookies).

4. COOKIES

We use two categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: required for login sessions and basic security. These cannot be disabled.
  • Optional cookies: anonymous analytics and preference storage. You can accept or decline these when you first open the app, and change your mind at any time in Settings.

5. DATA STORAGE & SECURITY

Your data is stored in a MongoDB database hosted on secure infrastructure. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text. We use HTTPS for all data in transit.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

6. YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Withdraw cookie consent at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

iTárók is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us immediately.

8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by displaying a notice in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
